Three Things Your Credit Union & Your Best Friend Have In Common

Think about your best friend. You laugh together, hang out together, know each other’s favorite things to do and places to go.  I bet one thing you didn’t think of when you pictured your best friend is all that they have in common with your credit union!  Here are three things your best friend has in common with your credit union:
  1. Your credit union has your best interests at heart. Just like your best friend is always on your side rooting for you to succeed, so is your credit union! And it not only wants you to financially succeed, it has the tools to help you do that! Credit unions, like Honor, offer everything from savings and checking accounts to auto loans to mortgages.
  2. Your credit union is made up of local people who care. Just like your best friend cares about you and everything you do, so does your credit union! Your CU wants to help you make financial decisions that are right for you. Maybe you’re looking to buy a new car, but you don’t exactly have the funds right now. Your local credit union has individuals who can help you get on track and apply for a loan, step by step. And the best part? You’ll be talking to a real person who cares.
  3. Your credit union is there for you when you need them. Just like your best friend is ready and willing to take your phone call no matter the time of day, credit unions have tools that give you access to your accounts virtually 24/7!  From a mobile app and online banking to extended call center hours, credit unions are there for you when you need them!

Three Apps That Will Help You Save Money

There are literally thousands of apps available for download (and a lot of them are free!) on smartphones or tablets.  A lot of them help us do a lot of useful things, like pass the time beating every level of Angry Birds or dominating your friends in Words With Friends.  As fun as apps like that are, there are quite a few other apps that can do something even more powerful…they can help you save money!  Here are three types of apps* that you need to check out -

1.  Retailer’s Apps – Instead of keeping all those junk emails with coupons, or actually using scissors to physically cut coupons out keep them all at the swipe of your finger!  So many retailers have their own app that will let you select your main location and will even push coupons to your phone and notify you when they are available and when they are about to expire so you don’t miss out on any savings!

2.  Gift Card Apps – I can’t count the times that I have been searching through my wallet or purse looking for that gift card I just KNOW I have in there somewhere to finally give up and end up paying with cash or credit because there’s a line behind me.  Save the room in your wallet and stop missing out on gift card balances by keeping them in your phone!  The app holds the balance, so even if you break or lose your phone (gasp!) you won’t miss out on the money you had left on the gift card because it’s stored in the app!

3.  Honor MobileApp (last but certainly not least!) – Gone are the days when you could only access your account inside your local credit union branch.  Honor’s gone mobile, and a lot of other financial institutions have to!  Having your account at your fingertips via your smart phone or tablet will allow you to keep better tabs on your account balance and your spending.  Plus, through Honor’s app, you have access to features that the website doesn’t offer – like mobile deposit that lets you deposit checks without having to come into the branch!  New features are on the way, too like P2P and Apple Pay!

Honor's Kaylee stopped in to chat with 97.5 Y-Country's Wild Bill about her favorite apps to help you save money in this week's Mason Jar Monday!

Four Ways To Keep With Your Finances & Still Be A Football Super Fan!

We know you have been waiting for this season for a long time, and football is finally back.  Obviously keeping up with your favorite team or your fantasy league should take first priority, so here are three ways that you can keep up with your finances without missing a second of the big game.

  1. Mobile App -  If you haven’t downloaded Honor’s mobile app from the app store yet, you need to do it now.  Watch the game, keep tabs on all of your accounts, transfer funds, and so much more all while still not moving from your seat (either at the game or on the couch).
  2. Mobile Deposit Capture – Why waste precious minutes that could be spent tailgating to run to the credit union and deposit your check when you can do it from your phone using Remote Deposit Capture?!  Take advantage of this FREE convenient tool and don’t miss a second of your tailgating experience or the big game.
  3. Auto Pay – You are already stressed out enough about how your fantasy league is doing, let us worry about paying your bills on time. Enroll in auto pay through online bill pay and check this off your list.  You can trust that your bills will all be paid on time so you can focus on the important things, like the status of your team’s starting QB.
  4. Benefits Checking – You’re at the big game and you need a little more cash to get just one more hot dog, and the concession only takes cash.  We’ve all been there.  If you have benefits checking, you can withdraw cash from the ATM at the stadium without worrying about that pesky ATM fee if you meet a few simple requirements.  You can find out more about benefits checking and the requirements on honor’s website.

Now back to football, which team are you rooting for this year?  Let us know on twitter @honorcu using #askhonorcu!
